CM orders action against fertiliser black marketeers

Hyderabad, Dec 27 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today directed the officials to take stringent action against the black marketeers of complex fertilisers.

An official release here said the Chief Minister, after a review meeting with state Agriculture Minister, had directed the officials to ensure timely supply of all required fertilisers to the farmers.

He directed the finance department officials to release the state's share of Rs 11 crore towards insurance payment to the farmers, who had lost their crop in the last Rabi season.

He also directed to release an additional sum of Rs 25 crore towards farm mechanisation.

Dr Mahajan murder case: woman, her daughter get death penalty

Pune, Dec 27 (UNI) A Sessions Court today pronounced death sentence to a woman-daughter duo for their involvement in the sensational murder of orthopaedician Deepak Mahajan in June last year. Delivering the judgement, Sessions Judge Vilas Patil found the accused Lina Devasthali and her daughter Dipti, who were relatives of Dr Mahajan, guilty of extortion, abduction and gruesome murder. Pronouncing the judgement, Judge Patil said considering the heinous act, both mother and daughter can not be shown any leniency with.....

Severe chill returns, mercury dips to 4.8

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) Severe chill returned to the capital today with the mercury plummeting to 4.8 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal. The minimum temperature, which was 8.3 degrees C yesterday, further dropped four notches. Visibility was 700 metres. The maximum also dropped slightly to 22 degrees Celsius which was normal. It was 23 degrees yesterday. The Met office forecast mainly clear sky tomorrow with light mist likely in the morning. A further drop in the night temperature.....

40 passengers injured as two buses collide

Ramanathapuram, Dec 27 (UNI) Forty passengers were injured, 12 of them seriously, in a head-on collision between a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus and a private bus at Vagaikulam, near Paramakudi, here today. Police sources said the mishap occurred when the driver of the Government bus, on its way to Rajapalayam from Rameswaram, attempted to overtake a van. All the injured, including ten women, were rescued by the fire service personnel with the help of locals and admitted to.....
