Chhattisgarh govt is trying to end naxalism: Dr Raman Singh

Ahmednagar, Dec 27 (UNI) The Chhattisgarh government is trying hard to end the menace of naxalism, which has been haunting the state since the last 40 years, Chief Minister Raman Singh said today.

Addressing mediapersons in Shirdi, he said they were organising rallies in Adivasi areas of Chattisgarh and appealing to the people there to shun the path of violence and join in the work of developing the state. ''They have started developing a positive attitude owing to our efforts,'' he noted.

About the developmental works done in Chattisgarh, he said ''In year 2007, we have produced 30,000 MW of electricity due to which people are not facing power supply crisis. From January 1, 2008 there would be no power cuts in the state. We have also come up with many new plans for the benefit of farmers which includes provision of one lakh agriculture electricity pumps for them.'' ''We will also be providing 34 lakh families of Chhattisgarh with 35 kgs of rice every month at the rate of Rs 3 per kg,'' Dr Singh added.

Speacial lodging facilities have been made for pilgrims from Chattisgarh in Tirupati, Jagannath Puri and Shirdi temples by the Chhattisgarh government, he added.

Dr Singh and his wife Meera visited the Saibaba temple here earlier in the morning.
