Cancel eviction notices served to poor farmers: BJP

Hyderabad, Dec 27 (UNI) The BJP today urged State Human Rights Commission Chairman Justice Subhashan Reddy to direct the state government to cancel the eviction notices served to poor farmers in East Godavari district.

BJP State President Bandaru Dattatreya, in a memorandum submitted to Human Rights Commission, said the government had served notices to 1623 farmers, belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs), in 16 villages as per the High Court order.

He said the lands were only the source of livelihood for the farmers and the High Court had given notice, presuming that these lands were village tanks.

He alleged that the government had not submitted details to the High Court, clarifying that the lands were not village tanks and cultivating these lands pose no danger to environment.

Next Dalit-Minorities conference in US: Paswan

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) Union Steel and Fertiliser Minister and Chairman of the Dalit and Minorities International Forum (DMIF) Ram Vilas Paswan today announced that the next DMIF conference will be held in New York in July 2008. Addressing mediapersons here, Mr Paswan said the decision was taken during the Executive Committee's meeting last night that the conference would be held from July 4 to 6 next year in the United States. BJP's National Executive likely to be in Bangalore

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) The three-day National Executive of the BJP, which is likely to commence on January 27, may have Bangalore as its venue, party spokesman Prakash Javadekar said. Mr Javadekar said the party had earlier decided that the meeting would be held in Delhi but was now thinking of shifting the venue. A decision to this effect will be taken by tomorrow evening after the leadership discussed the meeting logistics. The Executive would be on the opening.....

My Govt will encourage scientists: CM

Puducherry, Dec 27 (UNI) The Puducherry administration would take steps to encourage young scientistsin this union territory, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said today. Speaking at the Valedictory function of the 34th Jawharlal Nehru National Science Exhibition here, Mr.Rangasamy said the administration would enhance financial assistance being provided to young scientists from Rs 3000 to Rs 5000. Financial assistance was being provided to ten young scientists here through the science and technology, and enviornment department of the territorial administration, he said, adding.....
