BSF jawans create ruckus in local Church on Christmas day

Shillong, Dec 27 (UNI) Three Border Security Force (BSF) constables, said to be drunk, created a ruckus at a local Church in Dawki village, bordering Bangladesh on Christmas Day.

Police today said the trio had also got into a tussle with police personnel after they intervened to diffuse the situation.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Jaintia Hills District Frederick Kharkongor, trouble started when the BSF men went to church to offer prayers at Dawki in an inebriated state. This infuriated the local people.

''There was an altercation between the locals and the BSF personnel after that,'' district officials told UNI here over phone.

Later, the police took the trio to the local police station, but the jawans further created a ruckus by going on a rampage in the police station, said local eyewitnesses.

However, BSF DIG V S Sikarwar said that it was a matter of ''misunderstanding'' and everything had been solved amicably.

''Yes, the constables were in an inebriated state and there was a slight misunderstanding with the locals on the Day. The matter was sorted out amicably,'' he said.

Meanwhile, DIG Eastern Range DK Rapthap had rushed to the spot to diffuse the situation.
