Board meeting of proposed 'Smart City' project convened

Kochi, Dec 27 (UNI) The first meeting of the Board of Directors' of the proposed 'Smart City' project at Kakannad near here was convened under the chairmanship of Kerala Fisheries Minister S Sarma.

According to sources, the ten-member board had decided to prepare a master plan for the project by June 2008 and passed an one-year budget for construction and other purposes.

The meeting also elected Smart City CEO Abdul Latif Al-Mulla as the Board vice-chairman.

Executive Director Fareed Abdul Rahman, Business Development Manager Deepak Padmanabhan and others were present at the meeting.

The foundation stone for the Rs 1,700 crore project, a joint venture between the Kerala Government and TECOM Investments of Dubai, was laid by Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan on November 16.

Lok Sabha Speaker condemns attack on Bhutto

Santiniketan, Dec 27 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today condemned the assassination of Pakistan Opposition leader and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and warned the government against possible impact of militant activities in India. ''It is a sad incident and we condemn it,'' Mr Chatterjee said and added, ''The Centre and state governments should take necessary measures to face any terror attacks on our country from across the border.'' New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) The Congress Party today expressed shock at the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
