'Bhutto no ordinary leader, left imprint on time and age': PM

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today expressed shock and horror at the assassination of Pakistan's former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, saying the sub-continent had lost an outstanding leader for democracy.

''I am deeply shocked and horrified to hear of the heinous assassination of Ms Bhutto,'' the Prime Minister said in a condolence message.

The Prime Minister who is on a two-day visit to Goa, said Ms Bhutto was no ordinary political leader, but one who left a deep imprint on her time and age.

''Her contributions to a previous moment of hope in India-Pakistan relations and her intent to break India-Pakistan relations out of the sterile patterns of the past, were exemplary. In her death the sub-continent has lost an outstanding leader who worked for democracy and reconciliation in her country,'' the Prime Minister said.

Dr Singh said the manner of her going was a reminder of the commmon dangers that the region faced from ''cowardly acts of terrorism and of the need to eradicate this dangerous threat.'' ''My heartfelt condolences go to her family and the people of Pakistan who have suffered a grievous blow,'' the Prime Minister added.

High Court bench grants bail to DMDK and AIADMK men

Madurai, Tamil Nadu, Dec 27 (UNI) The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court today granted bail to ten DMDK volunteers and six AIADMK partymen, who were arrested in connection with the clash which ensued while paying tributes to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister late M G Ramachandran (MGR) here on his death anniversary on December 24. The Bench also granted anticipatory bail to nine AIADMK men in the case. The counsel for the respective parties submitted that they did not.....

Owner, Contractor of blueline of Badarpur accident arrested

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) The Delhi Police have solved the case of the October 7 Blueline accident in Badarpur, in which seven people were killed and 13 others injured, with the arrest of the owner and the contractor of the killer Blueline. Haryana Roadways employees ''beg'' for tyres

Hisar, Dec 27 (UNI) It was an unusual scene in the bus stands of the town today when the Haryana Roadways employees were seen begging for alms. The employees had resorted to this unique style of protest to underscore the apathy of authority concerned over the scarcity of tyres for the state roadways buses. Hisar Roadways depot president Dalbir Kirmara, who led the protest said, ''We are collecting money to give to the Haryana Roadways department to purchase tyres for.....
