Bhibhuti Pattnaik to receive Sahitya Bharati Samman

Bhubaneswar, Dec 27 (UNI) Renowned Novelist Dr Bibhuti Pattnaik will be honoured with the prestigious 'Sahitya Bharati Samman' for his contribution to the field of Oriya literature.

During the last five decades, Mr Pattnaik, trend-setter in Oriya novels from social realism to socialist realism, had written about 50 novels, two collections of short stories.

Established by the Gangadhar Rath Foundation, the award, which carries a citation and cash award of Rs 1 lakh, would be presented to Dr Pattnaik at a special function held at Cuttack On January 12 next.

Besides, Dr Pattnaik, the 'Bhanuji Rao Smaraki Samman', carrying a cash award of Rs.25,000 would be presented to Poet Professor Harihar Mishra.

The ''Subrata Rath Smaraki Samman'' would also be awarded to Kathakar - Debashis Panigrahi who would also receive a citation and a cash award of Rs 25,000, according to a release issued by the Gangadhar Rath Foundation.

Rakesh Sood appointed Ambassador to Nepal

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) Mr Rakesh Sood, presently Ambassador to Afghanistan, has been appointed envoy to Nepal replacing Mr Shivshanker Mukherjee will be the new High Commissioner in London. Mr Mukherjee will replace Mr Kamalesh Sharma who was elected Commonwealth Secretary General at the Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOGM) meet in Kampala (Uganda) recently, sources said. Karat lambasts Congress not attacking communalism in Gujarat
