Bhattal condemns lathicharge on Students, Anganwari workers

Chandigarh, Dec 27 (UNI) Punjab Congress President and leader of the opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal has condemned the lathicharge on peacefully demonstrating ITI Students at Bathinda and arrest of Anganwari workers by the Punjab Police.

Terming this police action as ''inhuman behaviour reminiscent of brutalities of British Raj Police'' Ms Bhattal said that peaceful demonstrations for legal demands was the constitutional right of all citizens but the SAD-BJP Government in Punjab ''has unleashed the police terror on all sections of the society to suppress them''.

Ms Bhattal has warned the SAD-BJP Government and its Police officials to behave properly with the demonstrators.

The state Congress chief added that the Party stood firmly with the Aanganwadi workers and ITI Students in their struggle for fulfillment of their demands, a release issued by PPCC General Secretary Raj Pal Singh said here.

Violence spreads to new areas in Kandhamal: Congress

Bhubaneswar, Dec 27 (UNI) Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee(OPCC) President Jayadev Jena today alleged that contrary to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's claim of normalcy returning to the strife-torn Kandhmal, violence is spreading to more areas in the state. Shikha Rahi appeals for arrested father

Dehradun, Dec 27 (UNI) The daughter of journalist Prashant Rahi, who was arrested here recently for his alleged involvement in Maoist activities in Uttarakhand, today alleged that he was framed by police and demanded he be set free immediately. Embroidery work on Srirangam temple tower in Limca Book

Tiruchirapalli, Dec 27 (UNI) A tapestry depicting the world's largest temple tower and promoted by the city based TILUNA educational and charitable trust has been selected for entry into Limca Book of Records. According to a TILUNA press release here today, Vijaya Ghose, Editor of the book, had issued a certificate recognising the largest half-cross-stitch artwork of 2,437.50 feet created by 666 volunteers of TILUNA. The large tapestry, comprising 1170 pieces (86 cm X 63 cm), featured a panoramic view.....
