Bangladesh strongly condemns assassination of Benazir Bhutto

Dhaka, Dec 27 (UNI) Bangladesh condemned in the strongest terms the attack that led to the assassination of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto.

"It was an unpardonable crime that has shocked the world," said Chief Advisor of the country's military backed caretaker government Fakhruddin Ahmed.

In a message of condolence he said the government and people of Bangladesh mourned this tragedy with their Pakistani brethren. Dr Ahmed also prayed that the souls of all those who got killed in the incident rests in eternal peace.

Severe chill returns, mercury dips to 4.8

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) Severe chill returned to the capital today with the mercury plummeting to 4.8 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal. The minimum temperature, which was 8.3 degrees C yesterday, further dropped four notches. Visibility was 700 metres. The maximum also dropped slightly to 22 degrees Celsius which was normal. It was 23 degrees yesterday. The Met office forecast mainly clear sky tomorrow with light mist likely in the morning. A further drop in the night temperature.....

40 passengers injured as two buses collide

Ramanathapuram, Dec 27 (UNI) Forty passengers were injured, 12 of them seriously, in a head-on collision between a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus and a private bus at Vagaikulam, near Paramakudi, here today. Police sources said the mishap occurred when the driver of the Government bus, on its way to Rajapalayam from Rameswaram, attempted to overtake a van. All the injured, including ten women, were rescued by the fire service personnel with the help of locals and admitted to.....

Board meeting of proposed 'Smart City' project convened

Kochi, Dec 27 (UNI) The first meeting of the Board of Directors' of the proposed 'Smart City' project at Kakannad near here was convened under the chairmanship of Kerala Fisheries Minister S Sarma. According to sources, the ten-member board had decided to prepare a master plan for the project by June 2008 and passed an one-year budget for construction and other purposes. The meeting also elected Smart City CEO Abdul Latif Al-Mulla as the Board vice-chairman. Executive Director Fareed Abdul.....
