Bangladesh on high security alert after Bhutto's assassination

Dhaka, Dec 27 (UNI) The Bangladeshi authorities have put the capital Dhaka on high security alert following the assassination of Pakistan's former Prime Minister Banazir Bhutto in Rawalpindi today.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Naim Ahmed said ''security has been beefed up in the capital including the diplomatic enclaves of Gulshan following the killing of Benazir Bhutto .'' Law enforcing agencies were asked to keep a strict vigil on the stranded Pakistani camps throughout the country particularly in Mirpur and Mohammadpur in Dhaka, a senior police official said.

More than 2,50,000 stranded Pakistanis have been staying in the camps since the country's independence in 1971.

47 projects worth Rs 6396 crore under JNNURM sanctioned

Mumbai, Dec 27 (UNI) As many as 47 projects under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), worth Rs 6396 crore, have been sanctioned for the state and the state was committed to take a lead in developing infrastructure in urban areas, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said here today. Porbandar 'Bandh' to protest against attack on businessman

Porbandar, Dec 27 (UNI) Business establishments remained closed in the city today to protest the attack on a businessman, allegedly by BJP Councillor Ramji Lodhari and two others. The 'Bandh' call was given by the business fraternity in the city. According to police, Kirana merchant Kanji Gordhan Lakhani was at his shop last evening when the BJP Councillor and two others, Riyaz Mansuri and Pratap Lodhari, stormed into the shop and threatened to kill his children, if he did not.....

151 tahsils declared drought-hit in MP

Bhopal, Dec 27 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government today declared 151 tahsils, across 37 districts, as drought-affected and okayed Rs 43.50 crore for relief work, official sources said. The decisions were taken at a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at Mantralaya. Mr Chouhan directed that a memorandum for central assistance be prepared by January 15 and an action plan be readied for potable water supply to villages and cities until the onset of summer.
