Bangalore Hi-Fliers on top of table with win over Sultans

Chandigarh, Dec 27 (UNI) Playing an inspiring game, Bangalore Hi-Fliers got the better of Hyderabad Sultans 2-1 in their crucial match in the fourth edition of the Premier Hockey League at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here today.

The Hi-Fliers, whose midfielders fully controlled the game in the second half, scored through their brilliant Korean forward You Hyo Sik (23rd) and captain Tushar Khandekar (60th). Hyderabad Sultans' solitary goal came from the stick of Deedar Singh in the 46th minute.

Khandekar was declared the man of the match for his outstanding performance.

Sik also earned the distinction of scoring 'half century' good of the tournament when he scored Bangalore's first goal today. It was the 50th goal of the tournament, including goals scored in the tie-breaker sessions. So far 52 goals have been listed from 12 encounters contested so far. However, the goals scored in shootout are not counted for deciding goal difference.

With this victory, Bangalore Hi-Fliers secured three points and became the leaders in points tally with eight points from four matches. Maratha Warriors are at the second spot with seven points.

Chandigarh Dynamos who face Sher-E-Jalandhar tomorrow, are at the third spot with six points. Hyderabad Sultans, Sher-E-Jalandhar and Orissa Steelers were sharing the fourth position with five points apice.

Man plans to buy airport, creates flutter

Chennai, Dec 27 (UNI) A 45-year-old man created a flutter at the Anna international airport here, when he tried to force entry into the airport this evening. Police said the man, clad in a dhoti and shirt, was stopped by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel and handed over to the airport police. The man, who appeared to be mentally deranged, gave contradictory replies and even told the police that he came here to have a look at the airport,.....

Mumbai, Dec 27 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today set aside a Pune court order, restraining the newly-elected Indian Medical Association(IMA) Maharashtra branch president Dr Devendra Shirole to take charge of office. A single judge bench of Justice J N Patel directed Pune District and Sessions Judge to submit an enquiry report as to how a civil suit challenging IMA state body elections was entertained by Civil Judge Senior Division, when as per the court manual the suit should have.....

Fresh violence in Kandhmal: Orissa seeks more CRPF jawans

Bhubaneswar, Dec 27 (UNI) The Orissa government today sought five more companies of the CRPF for deployment in the strife torn Kandhmal where fresh violence killed three people and Gajapati Superintendent of Police sustained wounds.
