Badal expresses shock over Benazir's assassination

Chandigarh, Dec 27 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said that the assassination of the former Pakistan Prime Minister Ms Benazir Bhutto was ''too shocking for words.'' In a statement here today, Mr Badal said Ms Bhutto's efforts to restore democracy in her country will long be remembered.

The Chief Minister also shared his heartfelt sympathies with the members of the bereaved family and prayed to the Almighty to give strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss and grant peace to the departed soul.

Karnataka claims girls singles, doubles titles

Nellore, Dec 27 (UNI) Karnataka tonight won the girls singles and doubles titles in the Junior National Badminton Championship here. In the finals, fourth seeded V Ruth Misha of Karnataka defeated third seeded N Sikki Reddy of Andhra Pradesh 21-23, 21-17, 21-12. In the doubles finals, Karnataka's Aswhini Ponnappa and Nitya Sosale trounced P C Thulasi (Ker) and N Sikki Reddy (AP) 16-21, 27-25, 21-17. Meanwhile, top seeded R M V Guru Sai Dutt of Andhra Pradesh won the boys singles.....

Bangalore Hi-Fliers on top of table with win over Sultans

Chandigarh, Dec 27 (UNI) Playing an inspiring game, Bangalore Hi-Fliers got the better of Hyderabad Sultans 2-1 in their crucial match in the fourth edition of the Premier Hockey League at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here today. The Hi-Fliers, whose midfielders fully controlled the game in the second half, scored through their brilliant Korean forward You Hyo Sik (23rd) and captain Tushar Khandekar (60th). Hyderabad Sultans' solitary goal came from the stick of Deedar Singh in the 46th minute......

British foreign secretary condemns assassination of Bhutto

London, Dec 27 (UNI) British foreign secretary David Miliband was shocked by the news of Ms Bhutto's death and extended his condolences to the Bhutto's family. ''I am deeply shocked by news of the latest attack in Rawalpindi which has claimed the life of Benazir Bhutto and killed at least 15 other people. My thoughts and sincere condolences go to Ms Bhutto's family at this terrible time, as well as to the families of all those who lost their lives.....
