Anti-people policies of govt behind Cong defeat in Gujarat: JD(U)

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) Janata Dal (United) President Sharad Yadav today criticised the Congress for anti-common man policies and said that the Gujarat election results were due to peoples resentment with the UPA government.

Mr Yadav, however, refused to comment on whether the BJP's victory was due to the policies of the state Chief Minister Narendra Modi's policies.

The JD(U) leader said the resentment of the common man with the UPA government was not confined to Gujarat but has spread throughout the country and it would meet the same electoral fate in the Lok Sabha elections whether they are held early or as scheduled.

Mr Yadav said the government was being run by four people, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister P Chidamabaram, Commerce Minister Kamal Nath and Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and under their regime both GDP and inflations were increasing while the people were suffering.

He said that during the past two years JD(U) has been raising the plight of farmers and agriculture under the UPA government as farmers were commiting suicides while the government was giving fertile land for Special Economic Zones threatening the food security of the country. He charged the government of doing double speak on the issue of SEZs.

Moreover, entry of MNCs and Corporate houses in retail business was threatening the employment of lakhs of small traders, he pointed out. The tribals were facing a lot of problems and despite Parliament passing a bill to safeguard their rights, the government has not done anything to help them.

Besides, Parliament's consensus decision to implement 27% reservation for OBC in higher education has not yet been implemented due to which the socially and economically backward people were disillusioned with the government.
