Adampur records 0.2 degrees celsius

Chandigarh, Dec 27 (UNI) People shivered under cold climatic conditions in North-West India as the night temperatures plunged today touching 0.2 degrees celsius at Adampur in Punjab.

The minimum temperatures fell one degree to four degrees below normal and chilly winds blew across many areas in Punjab and Haryana.

Ground frost may occur at a few places in the twin states during the next two nights, according to the Weather Office here.

The mercury dipped below normal by four degrees at Karnal, three degrees at Narnaul, Rohtak, Amritsar, Patiala and Safderjung, two degrees at Bhuntar and Srinagar and one degree at Ludhiana and Mandi.

Certain areas in the region, including Suratgarh, Sarsawa, Chandigarh, Ambala and Palam in Delhi experienced mist while Hindon, Bhatinda, Sirsa, Halwara, Adampur and Pathankot reported haze in the morning.

Cold surface winds blew across Punjab where Adampur with 0.2 degrees turned out to the coldest place in the state, followed by Amritsar recording 1.5 degrees and Patiala registering 4.2 degrees.

Ludhiana showed 5.0 degrees.

The minimum temperature also dipped in Haryana with Narnaul in Mahendergarh district recording 3.0 degrees. Rohtak registered 3.5 degrees, Karnal 4.0 degrees and Ambala 4.1 degrees.

Cold wave conditions prevailed in many areas of Himachal Pradesh.

A biting cold wave swept tribal areas where the minimum hovered below freezing point. The mercury hovered around minus 1.7 degrees at Kalpa in Kinnaur district.

Kullu valley was also under the impact of cold wave conditions following further drop in the mercury. The minimum dipped to 0.5 degrees at Bhuntar in Kullu district, zero degree at Sundernagar in Mandi district and 0.2 degrees at Una.

Shimla and its surrounding areas also reeled under cold climatic conditions. The capital town recorded 5.1 degrees celsius, one degree above normal.

The minimum temperature also plummeted at Chandigarh recording 6.2 degrees against 8.2 degrees registered yesterday.

The Met office predicted mainly sunny days in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh during the next 48 hours.

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) Chandigarh's Rahul Bakshi despite carding a two-over 74 emerged as the leader after the penultimate round of the Sunfeast All India Junior/Sub-Junior Golf Championship here today. The young Chandigarh golfer was three-under 213 for the tournament. Lee empahasises on virtue of patient
