40 passengers injured as two buses collide

Ramanathapuram, Dec 27 (UNI) Forty passengers were injured, 12 of them seriously, in a head-on collision between a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus and a private bus at Vagaikulam, near Paramakudi, here today.

Police sources said the mishap occurred when the driver of the Government bus, on its way to Rajapalayam from Rameswaram, attempted to overtake a van.

All the injured, including ten women, were rescued by the fire service personnel with the help of locals and admitted to the Government Hospital at Paramakudi. Later, the seriously injured were shifted to the Government Rajaji Hospital at Madurai.

Indian forces on border alerted, states to be vigilant

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) India today alerted its forces on the border and advised states to maintain vigil in view of the assassination of former Pakistan premier Benazir Bhutto in Rawalpindi. The forces on the Indo-Pak border have been asked to remain vigilant to foment any possible threat of infilteration or other kind of threat.
