40 passengers injured as two buses collide

Ramanathapuram, Dec 27 (UNI) Forty passengers were injured, 12 of them seriously, in a head-on collision between a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus and a private bus at Vagaikulam, near Paramakudi, here today.

Police sources said the mishap occurred when the driver of the Government bus, on its way to Rajapalayam from Rameswaram, attempted to overtake a van.

All the injured, including ten women, were rescued by the fire service personnel with the help of locals and admitted to the Government Hospital at Paramakudi. Later, the seriously injured were shifted to the Government Rajaji Hospital at Madurai.

Lok Sabha Speaker condemns attack on Bhutto

Santiniketan, Dec 27 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today condemned the assassination of Pakistan Opposition leader and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and warned the government against possible impact of militant activities in India. ''It is a sad incident and we condemn it,'' Mr Chatterjee said and added, ''The Centre and state governments should take necessary measures to face any terror attacks on our country from across the border.'' New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) The Congress Party today expressed shock at the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. "It is absolutely shocking...It is a sad day for democracy in Pakistan,"AICC Spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told UNI here .
