Yeddyurappa insists on 'Feb mid-term polls'

Mulbagal (Karnataka), Dec 24: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa today demanded that the mid-term elections in the state should be held in February.

Addressing a public meeting here, as part of BJP's 'Janajagruti Yatra', he said the Governor's rule should end immediately as no funds were released for taking up welfare schemes, introduced in his budget while holding the finance portfolio in the previous JD(S)-BJP coalition Government.

The administration had also come to a standstill with the officials slipping into a ''deep slumber,'' he alleged.

Citing the 'Sandhya Suraksha' scheme for those above 65 years for which he had allotted Rs 250 crore in the budget and issued a government order, Mr Yeddyurappa alleged that Governor Rameshwar Thakur was delaying the release of funds, which would have benefitted more than seven lakh aged and helpless people.

He threatened to launch a statewide 'dharna' if the funds for the scheme were not released within a week.

Mr Yeddyurappa accused the Congress and JD(S) of ousting him from the Chief Minister's post within a week, fearing that the BJP would bring in development in the state that could prove a setback for both parties.

''I have a dream of making Karnataka, a 'model state' on the lines of BJP-ruled Gujarat, if the party comes back to power,'' he said.
