Bollywood joins UN's anti-human trafficking effort

United Nations, Dec 19: Bollywood stars will join the effort of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to curb human trafficking in India.

According to a statement, millions of moviegoers will get to watch a two-minute video called ''One Life No Price'', which is aimed at raising awareness about this form of modern-day slavery and spur action to prevent and combat the practice.

To be shown before the upcoming movie ''Welcome'', the video features actors like Feroz Khan, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Paresh Rawal and Mallika Sherawat.

All these Bollywood stars are recording separate messages in support of the cause. The movie is set for release across India this Friday, and will be shown in 1,100 theatres.

The UNODC's partnership with Bollywood is part of a broader programme called 'UN.GIFT', which was launched in March to bring the governments, private sector, academia, civil society and media together to combat the scourge of human trafficking.

Other actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, Preity Zinta and John Abraham have also been enlisted by the UNODC to make public service announcements to support the cause.
