Rupee ends flat at 39.54 per USD

Mumbai, Dec 18: The Rupee today ended flat at 39.54 per US Dollar from its previous close of 39.54/55 amid choppy trading sessions in the market.
The partially convertible Indian unit resumed weaker against the US unit at 39.60 in early trade, touching more than a two week low.

Later, it touched a high of 39.4750 per Dollar and a low of 39.62 per dollar amid choppy trade throughout the day in Inter-bank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, dealers said. ''The local unit fluctuated with a difference of about 15 paise. However, the supply was good in the market,'' a senior dealer with a leading private bank said.

It is expected that rupee would have an upward resistance of around 39.60 per dollar and a downside resistance of around 39.80 per dollar in the further sessions of this month as the market is observing a kind of consolidation and rupee is finding support around 39.35 per dollar, he opined.

The six-month forward premium closed lower at 1.82 (1.95) per cent, while annualized premium ended at 1.35 (1.38) per cent. Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today fixed the reference rate at Rs 39.57 per US Dollar. The reference rate is up by 20 paise compared to previous day's rate of Rs 39.37 per USD.

A mixed trend was observed in the Rupee's trade against other major world currencies. The Indian unit ended weak at 56.85 (56.82/83) against the Euro, while it closed strong at 79.60 (79.71/71) per unit against Pound Sterling. Against the Japanese Yen, it ended at 34.82 (34.84/85) per hundred units.

Rupee trades at 40.80/81 in early day trade

Mumbai, May 17: Rupee was seen trading strong in the morning session at 40.80/81 against dollar. The domestic unit is expected to be strong in the ensuing sessions on account of strong capital inflows, said dealers.

At 0945 hrs today the partially convertible rupee was trading at 40.80/81 per dollar, just off previous close of 40.78/79.

The rupee has gained more than eight per cent against the dollar this year, dealers added. Read More

Rupee opens strong at 40.63 per dollar

Mumbai, May 22: Rupee today opened stronger at 40.63 per dollar as dollar demand stood high from all quarters. It had closed the trade at 40.66/67 yesterday.

In the early hours of trade the domestic unit posted an intra-day high of 40.57 close to the recent peak of 40.51 and may end up at 40.55/65 levels today, said a leading dealer to sources.

Rupee trades at 40.77/78 against USD

Mumbai, May 16: The rupee today traded stronger against the dollar at 40.77/78 in the early trade, drawing support on strong capital inflows.

The recovery of the domestic unit to its recent peak points was supported by the investor trend, who sold dollars to generate funds to tide over a cash squeeze in the money market, said dealers.

Rupee trades at 40.80/83 against USD

Mumbai, May 15: The Indian rupee today rose further from the previous close of 40.87/88 per dollar to trade at 40.80/83 in the morning session.

Market observers said the rupee was appeared to be returning to its recent nine year heights as investors bought the currency to take advantage of firm call money rates caused by a cash squeeze in the money market.

Rupee strenghtens, trades at 40.95/97 per USD

Mumbai, May 14: The rupee traded strong at 40.95 per dollar in morning session against the previous close of 41.26, tracking gains in other Asian currencies against the dollar.

At 0945 hrs, the domestic unit was trading at 40.95/96 per dollar, rising sharply from Friday's close of 41.26.
