Police registers FIR against Congress candidate in J

Jammu, Dec 15 (UNI) Congress candidate for Poonch-Haveli Assembly Constituency, Jahangir Mir, has been booked by police in connection with firing and allegedly attacking the election staff at a polling centre during the by-elections on December 12, official sources today said.

The FIR was registered against Mir yesterday at Mandi Police Station of Poonch district for allegedly firing in air and breaking Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) during by-elections in booth number 52-A at Gagrian, the sources said.

''Mounting pressure from the public, National Conference activists and also from the neutral observers, the police finally registered an FIR No 92/2007 under Sections 353/324/336 RPC yesterday against Congress candidate contesting Poonch-Haveli by-elections, Jahangir Mir, who is also a nephew of G M Mir Poonchi,'' the sources told UNI.

However, the sources further said that Mir also lodged a counter FIR No 93/2007 under Section 147/342 RPC against local public of Gagrian for manhandling and keeping him locked in a room for long.

Presiding officer Mushtaq Hussain Shah has also been implicated in the case.

Speaker to decide on no-confidence against Koda on Dec 17

Ranchi, Dec 15 (UNI) The BJP-led Opposition in Jharkhand today sent a petition to Speaker Alamgir Alam seeking to move a no-confidence motion against UPA-backed Madhu Koda government. Mr Alam informed the House of the proposed motion by Oppostion leader Arjun Munda and four others. Altogether 33 members from the Opposition stood in favour of the motion, after which the Speaker said he would give his verdict on December 17.
