Musharraf lifts emergency in Pakistan, Constitution restored

Islamabad, Dec 15 (UNI) Bowing to pressure from the United States and other Western nations, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf today lifted the state of emergency and restored the Constitution, paving the way for the parliamentary elections on January 8.

The Cabinet Division issued a Presidential Order under which the state of emergency, declared on November 3 in the wake of political and judicial unrest and a series of terrorist attacks across the nation, was revoked and the Provisional Constitution Order-2007 repealed with immediate effect.

150 fishermen detained in Kakinada port

Chennai, Dec 15 (UNI) As many as 150 fishermen, who had ventured into the sea on December 13 night in 25 boats from the Kasimedu area in North Chennai, were detained by the authorities at Kakinada port in Andhra Pradesh as they drifted in the high sea. Srinagar, Dec 15 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police and forest officials seized five horses along with illicit timber in north Kashmir, official sources said. IPS officers refuse to surrender revolvers even after superannuation

Patna, Dec 15 (UNI) Several IPS officers in Bihar have refused to surrender their service revolvers, even after their superannuation or transfer.
