World Bank to assist 3 major projects in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Dec 14(UNI) Three major developmental projects involving over Rs.2000 crore with World Bank (WB) assistance will be soon launched in Orissa.

Reviewing the External Aided Projects at a meeting here, Orissa Development Commissioner R N Bohidar told newsmen that the final negotiations for the Rs 500 crore minor irrigation tank renovation project, 312.5 million USD Orissa Road Projects and Rs 315 crore Targetted Rural Initiative for Poverty Termination and Infrastructure (TRIPTI) projects would be either taken up in January or first week of February.

Mr Bohidar said the appraisal for all the three projects had almost been completed and the projects would be launched in next two months in the state.

He said under the tank renovation project the World Bank had already given clearance for the renovation of 1025 tanks with a command area of 1,30,000 hectares.

The appraisal of the project was going on and the four year project is likely to be launched soon after the final negotiation likely to be held either in January or in February.

Similarly, the World Bank had shown keen interest to provide Rs 250 million US dollars loan assistance in the first phase for the development of roads.

While the state would provide 20 per cent of the total project cost, the World Bank would bear the 80 per cent.

Under the project, Mr Bohidar said the Berhampur-Rayagada,Khariar Bhawanipatna and the Kendrapara-Chandbali-Anandpur road would be taken up.

The TRIPTI project would be taken up in the districts of Anugul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri,Khurda, Kendrapara and Ganjam with the objective to promote self employment through the self help groups.

The project will cover more than 12.5 lakh families spread over 8365 villages in 1000 Gram Panchayats, he said.
