Bhopal, Dec 14 (UNI) A national workshop 'People-Public-Private Partnership for Farmers' Preferred Seed Supply to Increase Productivity' was organised in the state capital today.

The workshop -- organised by an NGO, the Action for Social Advancement -- was inaugurated by Madhya Pradesh Principal Secretary (Agriculture) Pravesh Sharma.

The workshop dwelled on experiences of the ASA and other organisations in the field of participatory selection of crop varieties and their promotion by farmers' organisations in agricultural productivity management (PSVP), as per a release.

This important area of the development sector works alongside farmers in poorest tribal areas to support maximisation of agricultural production, ensuring short-term food security and long-term livelihood sustainability and enabling policy enhancement.

Mr Sharma stressed on the need for key players in the field present at the workshop to work together towards a holistic strategy in this field.

He said central to this strategy would be policy advocacy for institutionalising of PSVP within formal systems and identifying innovative solutions.

The experiences of those delivering PSVP projects in the country including the ASA, the GVT, the UNDP and the MSSRF were showcased during the workshop.

The workshop decided to establish a working group to a draft policy recommendations for scaling up PSVP and seed production for farmer producer institutions, the release added.
