Veteran freedom fighter Shiv Kumar Mishra passes away

Kanpur, Dec 14 (UNI) Veteran freedom fighter Shiv Kumar Mishra, also the last member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Army, died at his native town here.

Patriot Chandrashekhar Azad had included Mishra in his Army, when he was only 16-year-old. He was greatly influenced with the ideologies of Shaheed-e-Anzam Bhagat Singh.

Revolutionist Shiv Verma had later inculded him in Communist Party of India (CPI). In 1949, he became the CPI state unit secretary.

Mishra had also penned down several popular books, comprising 'Kalapani Ki Kahani,' 'Ooti-Masdras Ke Balidani Veer,' 'Kranti Ka Ugra Doot,' and 'Kakori Me Naxalwad'.

The mortal remains of the veteran freedom fighter were consigned to flames here yesterday.

Srinagar, Dec 14 (UNI) Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid today urged separatist leaders to participate in the assembly elections as ''history has witnessed that separatist have not benefited by staying away from the polls.'' Congress comes out with hard disk data

Shimla, Dec 14 (UNI) Turning the tables on the BJP's poll plank of corruption ahead of the second phase of the state assembly elections, the Himachal Pradesh Congress today came out with details of the much talked about ''hard disk data'', allegedly containing the recommendations made by former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal while in office. State Animal Husbandry Minister Harsh Mahajan, who had opted out of the fray in these elections, released the details in a release here. The release.....

Mumbai, Dec 14 (UNI) The dream run of sixth seed Olga Blank of Israel, who had accounted for top seed Sonia Dayal in the quarters yesterday, ended today when she fell in straight sets to eighth seed Tanvi Shah of India in the MSLTA-ITF junior tennis tournament, at the Dr G K Ranade tennis centre courts here. Tanvi Shah took control of the match early on and gave her opponent no chance with a solid baseline game winning at 6-3, 6-0.....

Bokaro Steel Plant's DGM dies in accident

Bokaro, Dec 14 (UNI) A top official of Bokaro Steel Plant died after falling into a coke oven in the plant this evening, official sources said. BSP's Deputy General Manager B K Govil, while supervising the work at battery No. 4 of the coke oven site inside the plant, accidentally slipped off from about 20 feet into the flames at around 1800 hrs. He was immediately rushed to Bokaro General hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, hospital sources said. UNI.....

Telugu comedian enters Guinness Book of World Records

Hyderabad, Dec 14 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today congratulated Telugu movie comedian, Brahmanandam for gaining an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records for acting in maximum number of Telugu films. According to a release here, Dr Brahmanandam acted in 754 Telugu films since his entry into the film field 20 years ago. The Chief Minister described him as the greatest comedian in the contemporary Telugu commericial cinema, who had won the hearts of crores.....
