Two wins each for Chandigarh FA, SSA Mizoram and LSC Meghalaya

Chandigarh, Dec 14 (UNI) State-run Chandigarh Football Academy, Sarav Shiksha Abhiyan Football Academy of Mizoram and Lajong Sports Club of Meghalaya recorded two victories each in the Manchester United Premier Cup India Finals-2008 North East Zone Qualifying Football Tournament being played at the Sector 17 Football Stadium and Punjab Engineering College ground here today.

Sarav Shiksha Abhiyan FA defeated Jagatjit Cotton Textile (JCT) Mills Football Academy by 2-0 (Lalnun Puia 13th, David Lal 38th) and Chirag United Football Club of West Bengal by 3-1 (SSA: Lalnun Puia 3rd, 19th, Lawnkima 14th. Chirag UFC: Surojit Das 11th).

Lajong Sports Club of Meghalaya defeated Shimla Youngs by 1-0 (Eugene 25th) and Eastern Sporting Union by 2-1 ( Lajong: Eugene 2nd, Rayan Phankan 26th. ESU: H Enthoiba 26th).

In their second match, Chandigarh Football Academy gave an improved display to outplay Uttar Pradesh Football Academy of Varanasi by 3-0. Chuanmura (6th), Rajinder Kumar (8th) and Gagandeep (38th) scored one goal each for the winners.

Mohun Bagan and SPHS Academy of Punjab played a one-all draw in the third match. In a well-contested encounter the Punjab team drew the first blood through Nirvail Singh who scored with a nice header in the fourth minute. Goging all out in the closing stages, Mohun Bagan restored parity when Trithankar Sarkar converted a corner with a perfect header in the 38th minute.

Mohammaden Sporting of Kolkata secured full points at the cost of Sikkim Football Academy whom they beat by 3-1. Naian Sarkar (3rd), Azharuddin Mollah (14th) and Shahbas (39nd) scored for the winners.

Prabharka Kolay reduced the margin for Sikkim Football Academy in the 32nd minute.

St Stephen's Football Academy of Chandigarh eked out a narrow 1-0 win over Delhi Development Authority. Manish Mundari scored the all-important goal with a powerful shot from top of the box in the 14th minute. It was Stephen's second successive victory.

In the fourth match in the morning session Silchar Football Academy blanked Hindustan Football Academy by 3-0. Prabal Pratim Deka opend Silchar FA account in the 12th minute. Languang Kamei (14th) and Moses Rangmei (34th) added one goal each to the winners' tally.

At the Punjab Engineering ground, Jagatjit Cotton Textile Football Academy had a mixed fourtune today. They lost to Sarva Shiksha Abihiyan Football Academy of Mizoram by 2-0 in their first match.

Lalnun Puia (13th) and David Lal (38th) were the Mizoram team's scorers.

Later, JCT prevailed over Uttar Pradesh Football Academy, Varanasi by 2-1 in a keenly contested affair. It was UP Football Academy who shot into the lead in the 9th minute through Divyanshu.

The JCT boys dominated the second half and scored two goals.

Harmandeep neutralised the lead in the 27th minute while Prem Kumar snatched the match winner in the 36th minute.

In another fixture, state-run Chandigarh Football Academy struggled to overcome Chirag United Football Academy of West Bengal by a lone goal scored by Chhuanmania with a solo effort.

In yet another outing, Lajong Football Academy of Meghalaya beat Shimla Youngs by 1-0. Eugene scored the all-important goal for Meghalaya team.

Exporters advised to opt for other currencies

Exporters for further increase in duty drawback rates

Tirupur, Dec 14 (UNI) Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) today urged Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram to increase duty drawback rates by another three per cent to sustain in the global market and make the optimum utilisation of the exporting units. In a letter to the Union Minister, TEA President A Sakthivel thanked him for increasing the duty drawback rates by one per cent for cotton knitwear products at a time when the export was showing a declining trend and dismal performance.....

Delhi on way to become power surplus state- says Dr Walia

New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) Delhi Power Minister A K Walia today said the Capital is on its way to becoming a power surplus state by 2010 when it would be hosting the Commonwealth Games. Speaking after inaugurating a three-day Power Asia Exhibition at Pragati Maidan, Dr Walia said the city-state would be able to add more than 2000 MW to its generation capacity as a number of MoUs have been signed for setting up of power stations in Delhi.....
