Three killed, 16 injured in road accident

Kancheepuram, Dec 14 (UNI) Three people were killed and 16 others seriously injured when a mini-lorry hit the median near Madurantakam on the Chennai-Tiruchirapalli National Highway late last night.

Police sources said the victims, all construction labourers, were proceeding to Dindivanam from Chennai to attend a funeral when the mishap occurred.

Police identified the victims as Subramani (52), Ramadass (55) and Chellappa (42).

While five of the injured were shifted to a government hospital in Chennai, the others were being treated at the Chengalpattu Government Hospital, police added.

Centre grants Rs 112.65 cr to NE for flood control measures

Shillong, Dec 14 (UNI) The Centre has provided financial assistance of about Rs 112.65 crores to the North Eastern states for flood control measures during 2007-08, with Meghalaya's share being Rs 2.50 crores, an official statement said today. The Centre provides technical support to the states through studies and maintains a network of flood forecasting stations.
