Sydney, Dec 14 (UNI) Stunned after being questioned for his bowling action, Aussie speedster Shaun Tait has come down heavily on the black caps calling them ''a disgrace''.
New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori and coach John Bracewell had earlier raised question in Tait's action during yesterday's pre-match press conference.
''I think people are going to speculate on it. Whenever someone bowls fast it's the first thing people look at and it's up to people who are able to comment on it.
''He bowls fast and over 150km/h so whenever somebody like that steps up into the game of international cricket people take notice,'' Vettori said.
I reply to that Tait said, ''I know nothing about it,'' adding his unique action had ''never'' been investigated despite playing a major part in Australia's 2007 World Cup win in the Caribbean.
The 24-year-old pacer who has a slinging action said, ''That's a disgrace.'' ''They can question me and I can go and do the tests but I can't see a problem with my action at all. Maybe they should watch the ball more,'' Tait said in obvious reference to New Zealander's uneasyness in dealing with raw pace.
Former Sri Lankan Test batsman Mahanama, who is the match refree in the ongoing one day series between Australia and New Zealand, said no complaints had been received about Tait's action in Perth but said his action would be monitored in the upcoming matches.
''I don't know how we'll see it tomorrow and in the other two games but it's nothing that we have discussed. We'll go in with an open mind tomorrow,'' Mahanama said.
Meanwhile, Cricket Australia (CA) chief executive James Sutherland has come to the rescue of the pacer and said he did not think Tait had any reason to be concerned.
''This is the first time I've heard Shaun's action called into question and I don't regard it as an issue he needs to worry about,'' he said.
''I've always subscribed to the theory that you shouldn't make a fast bowler angrier than he already is.'' Former Aussie coach John Buchanan has given clean chit to tait's action and said it is unwise for New Zealand to question the legality of Shaun Tait's bowling action.
Buchanan, who was in charge of the national side when Tait made his international debut, said, ''I don't think it's really a wise thing for the Kiwis to be making any comment about,'' he was quoted as saying by 'The Australian'.
''Any bowler's action probably needs to be first viewed by match referees and umpires and his has been for a long period of time without any problem.
''So I don't think it's a wise move for a captain of a cricket team and or their coach to be voicing concerns.
''It's not their providence to do that,'' he opined.
