Sathyabama, Madras, SRM on winning spree

Chennai, Dec 14 (UNI) Hosts Sathyabama University, Annamalai (Chidambaram), Madras and SRM notched up their third successive wins in the Group league matches and virtually assured themselves of semi-final berths in the Tamil Nadu Inter-University Basketball Tournament here today.

While Sathyabhama subdued Tamil Nadu Physical Education University (TNPEU) 74-45, Annamalai got the better of Sastra University, Thanjavur, 41-25 in Group A.

In late last evening matches, Sathyabhama defeated VIT 58-30 while Annamalai beat TNPEU 56-48.

In Group B, Madras University defeated Gandigramam University 49-21, while SRM defeated Bharath 69-39.

In the last league matches, Sathyabhama will meet Annamaalai and SRM would come face to face with Madras University to decide the group toppers.

Results: Group A: Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT)-59 (Jubin 19) bt Sastra University, Thanjavur-37 (Senthil 15).

Annamalai University-56 (Guna 19, Petchi 16) bt TNPEU-48 (Senthil Kumar 24).

Sathyabama-58 (Milton 14, Atkins 20) bt VIT-30 (Harsha 12, Jubin 10).

Dharampur Youth Congress President resigns

Shimla, Dec 14: Dharampur Youth Congress President Jitender Singh Jamwal along with seven other office bearers and party activists in Chopal have resigned from the Congress, alleging wrong distribution of tickets. Mr Jamwal said he along with seven other office bearers besides other party activists have resigned from the party, which had fielded former SFI state president Chandershekhar from the constituency. Arunachal: NFC to go for fast unto death

Itanagar, Dec 14: The NFC has threatened to go on a hunger strike if its demand for construction of a road from Doimukh in Papum Pare to Potin in Lower Subansiri district via Hoj village is not materialised within a week.
