RGU gets Rs 12 crore for hostels, auditorium

Itanagar Dec 14 (UNI) The Union Tribal Affairs ministry has alloted Rs 2.9 crore for construction of 100-seater separate hostels for boys and girls in Rajiv Gandhi University, the lone varsity of the state.

Official sources said here today the DoNER ministry had also sanctioned Rs ten crore for construction of an auditorium with 1000 seating capacity in the university campus.

The auditorium would be known as Rajiv Gandhi Arunachal Convention Centre, sources added.

A proposal for a 150-capacity conference hall to be equipped with state-of-the-art multimedia facilities was submitted and DoNER Minister Mani Shanker Aiyar had consented to look into it, sources said adding that Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu had also pursued the proposal.

RGU vice-chancellor K C Belliappa had redrafted the 11th plan proposals submitted to the UGC by his predecessor for introduction of seven new departments besides plea for a Centre for Women Studies, sources added.

Revive traditional trade roads to Iran, Central Asia, J

Srinagar, Dec 14 (UNI) Demanding revival of traditional trade routes going through Pakistan to Afghanistan, Iran and Central Asia, Jammu and Kashmir minister for Finance Tariq Hameed Karra said no state or country in today's world could progress in insulation. Jammu and Kashmir has a locational disadvantage, as it is a land-locked and could progress only through revival of these traditional trade routes, he said during a pre-budget meeting with traders here. Two way traffic allowed on Kashmir highway

Srinagar, Dec 14 (UNI) The 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway was today reopened on both ways after further improvement in the weather and clearance of accumulated snow on the road. We have also allowed light vehicles from here to Jammu'', a traffic police official told UNI here. He said the highway was partially reopened yesterday afternoon after remaining closed for two days due to heavy snowfall at Jawahar tunnel, Banihal and Qazigund. The official said all the stranded vehicles on other side.....

Lok Ayukta official laments delay in empowerment

Madikeri, Karnataka, Dec 14 (UNI) Karnataka Lok Ayukta Director (Health) Dr R Balasubramanyam has lamented that delay in giving more teeth to Lok Ayukta has prevented it from taking action against corrupt IAS and IFS officers.
