Revive traditional trade roads to Iran, Central Asia: J

Srinagar, Dec 14 (UNI) Demanding revival of traditional trade routes going through Pakistan to Afghanistan, Iran and Central Asia, Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Finance Tariq Hameed Karra said no state or country in today's world could progress in insulation.

Jammu and Kashmir has a locational disadvantage, as it is a land-locked and could progress only through revival of these traditional trade routes, he said during a pre-budget meeting with traders here.

He said this was not a political slogan, but a hard reality, as no state or country in today's world could progress in isolation and we have to open up to create regional economic blocs.

Mr Karra said that in tune with the people's yearning on both sides, the cross-LoC routes must be thrown open for free movement of people and goods.

Mr Karra said in the budget 2008-09, the Coalition Government would carry forward the fiscal and budgetary management process initiated by it earlier.

He said while the thrust of the next budget would be on resource generation, at the same time due care would be taken to represent all the sections of the society in it.

''We would put in our best efforts to ensure sustained expansion of economy to enable creation of more job and employment opportunities for our youth,'' he said and added that unemployment is one of the major challenges confronting the society today and the Government would try to utilize various available resources to tide over the bludgeoning problem.
