Raja calls for healthy partnership between govt and industry

New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) To acquire a dominant position in the global electronics market, Telecom Minister A Raja said, there should be healthy partnership between government and industry.

''By working together, we can certainly put India in a strong, dominant position in the global electronics map,'' he said.

The Minister also called for strengthen Research and Development and investment capabilities.

''In this era of globalization, if our Indian companies have to compete and grow in the global marketplace, we need to strengthen our Research and Development capabilities and investments,'' the Minister said while speaking at the 28th Annual Function of Consumer Electronics&Appliances Manufacturers Association last evening.

He said that another area that needed to be focused on is exports.

The strengthening of the rupee has been acting as deterrent for exports, he said adding ''but we still need to look at exports as a viable option, rather then concentrating on domestic market along.'' UNI

Delhi on way to become power surplus state- says Dr Walia

New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) Delhi Power Minister A K Walia today said the Capital is on its way to becoming a power surplus state by 2010 when it would be hosting the Commonwealth Games. Speaking after inaugurating a three-day Power Asia Exhibition at Pragati Maidan, Dr Walia said the city-state would be able to add more than 2000 MW to its generation capacity as a number of MoUs have been signed for setting up of power stations in Delhi.....

Local TV channel cancels Modi's interview

Ahmedabad, Dec 14 (UNI) Fearing punitive action for violation of the model code of conduct from the Election Commission, a local TV channel hurriedly cancelled the live interview of Gujarat Chief Minister Narnedra Modi today. With a view to avoid any legal action, 'The Citi Cable' cancelled its live interview of Mr Modi, that was to be aired at 1930 hours this evening. Suresh Mehta, former BJP Chief Minister, who recently quit the Party, lodged a complaint with the EC,.....

Action to be taken on pasting of stickers: EC

Gandhinagar, Dec 14 (UNI) Taking a dim view of pasting of stickers or pamphlets on vehicles, the Chief Electoral Officer today hinted that action would be taken against candidates, pasting stickers on private vehicles. ''If the sticker is pasted with the written authority from the candidate, expenses incurred on the vehicle would be booked to the account of the candidate,'' EC sources said. ''In the event, if it is done without the written authority from the candidate, it should be examined.....
