Rahul goes on a roadshow in Vadodara to woo voters

Vadodara, Dec 14 (UNI) Rounding off the Congress party's spirited election campaigning in Gujarat, AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi today made a fervent plea to voters in Gujarat to elect a ''government of truth, government of future and government of love, but not of anger and hatred''.

Mr Gandhi, who began his roadshow two hours behind schedule because of the late arrival of his flight from Delhi, was greeted by hundreds of people, including women and children, all along the 35-km route in which he covered the city's three constituencies--Raopura, Wadi and Sayajiganj. The campaigning ended this evening for the second phase of assembly elections in the State.

Addressing his first roadside election rally near Pratapnagar bridge, he said, ''Aap aanewale samay mein ek aisi sarkar layiye jo satya ki sarkar ho, jo bhavishya ki sarkar ho, jo pyar ki sarkar ho, parantu krodh ki na ho.'' ''Gandhiji used to say that truth is most important in our life and it should never hide behind falsehood,'' he said alleging that the present government in Gujarat had always taken shelter behind falsehood.

Stating that Gujarat government's claim on development was far from truth, the young MP said though the government claimed that it was providing 24-hour power to the farmers, they were getting power only for 6 to 7 hours a day.

He also rejected the BJP government's claim of being number one in education and in attracting investment to the state. ''Earlier, Vadodara was considered to be the centre of education in the entire country. But now Andhra Pradesh and Karnakata have marched well ahead of Vadodara.'' he added.

Mr Gandhi also recalled Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel's contribution to the freedom movement.

Later, he took a flight to Limdi in Dahod district to canvas for party candidate Bachhu Kishori, who had won the seat in 1998.
