Police eliminate two gangsters of Bunty Pandey in 'encounter'

Mumbai,Dec 14 (UNI) Two gangsters, belonging to the Bunty Pandey group, were shot dead in an encounter with officials of the crime branch near Andheri here today.

The gangsters, Imran Ahmed and Ram Autar, had come to the city from Uttar Pradesh to eliminate a sitting corporator of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

Acting on information about their arrival in the city, a trap was laid to nab them near the Saki Naka area. On being spotted, they were told to surrender. However, the gangsters tried to escape by firing at the police and in the subsequent encounter with police, the duo was shot dead, police said.

UP govt to equip police with modernised weapons

Lucknow, Dec 14 (UNI) To uproot goons and mafias, the Mayawati government today decided to equip the Uttar Pradesh Police with modernised weapons and equipment. Veteran freedom fighter Shiv Kumar Mishra passes away

Kanpur, Dec 14 (UNI) Veteran freedom fighter Shiv Kumar Mishra, also the last member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Army, died at his native town here. Patriot Chandrashekhar Azad had included Mishra in his Army, when he was only 16-year-old. He was greatly influenced with the ideologies of Shaheed-e-Anzam Bhagat Singh. Revolutionist Shiv Verma had later inculded him in Communist Party of India (CPI). In 1949, he became the CPI state unit secretary. Mishra had also penned down several popular.....

Salman urges separatist leaders to participate in elections

Srinagar, Dec 14 (UNI) Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid today urged separatist leaders to participate in the assembly elections as ''history has witnessed that separatist have not benefited by staying away from the polls.'' Talking to reporters here today, Mr Khurshid, former foreign secretary, said that separatists have not benefited by staying away from the polls.
