Paint brushes racket busted; 2 arrested

New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) A racket involved in the manufacture and sale of paint brushes made from mongoose hair was busted here with the arrest of two persons and 751 brushes worth Rs 2.5 lakh were recovered, police said today.

On a tip-off that illegal trade was being carried out in Shastri Nagar area, the police recovered 360 brushes of different sizes and colours worth Rs 1.1 lakh in a raid on a shop and arrested its owner Ram Baksh Matta (65) yesterday.

On Batta's interrogation and subsequent revelation that he had been receiving the brushes from a factory situated in Kingsway Camp, the police raided the factory from where 391 brushes worth Rs 1.40 lakh were recovered. The owner of the factory Ram Saroop Arora (65) was also arrested, police added.

Fire in MCL mines;One injured

Sambalpur, Dec 14 (UNI) A driver was critically injured as sudden fire broke out in the Lakhanpur opencast mines no-1 under Mahanadi Coalfield Ltd (MCL). MCL Public Relation Officer D Mehra said during the fire fighting, a panicked driver jumped out of the dozer and fell in hot ash. Injured dozer driver Arjun Behera sustained 70 per cent burn injuries and was rushed to IGH Rourkela for treatment. UNI.....

Mild eathquake hits Nanded and Koyna region of Maharashtra

Mumbai, Dec 14 (UNI) A low-intensity earthquake, with Koyna as the epicentre, hit Nanded and Koyna region of Maharashtra today, a Meteorology department official said here. The earthquake, measuring 2.7 on the Richter scale, was felt initially at Nanded, while the one of 2.9 magnitude, hit Koyna region at around 1816 hrs the official told UNI.....
