Jalandhar, Dec 14 (UNI) Disturbances in Pakistan has no impact on Indian border, rather it has become quite after the imposition of emergency there, said Border Security Force Director General A K Mitra here today.
Talking to media persons after presiding over the Director General's Quarterly conference here at the BSF's Punjab Frontier Headquarters, Mr Mitra said though when the emergency was declared in Pakistan, there were apprehensions that militants would sneak into the Indian territory and thus the Indian forces were put on high alert all along the Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir border.
''But it (rise in infiltration) did not happened'', he admitted.
Some attempts of infiltration happened in Jammu early this year, but were thwarted, he added. However, infiltration from Bangladesh was still on but there was substantial fall in it, he said.
''After the Directors General level meeting in March last, our counterparts, Bangladesh Rifles, are more accomodating and cooperative, and simultaneous coordinated patrolling along the border is also in progress, '' Mr Mitra.
To further check infiltration and cross-border smuggling, the BSF has inducted two new modern gadgets along the Punjab border with Pakistan, namely Battlefield Surveillance Radar (BFSR) and Lorras besides Hand Held Thermal Imagers (HHTI) and night vision goggles for keeping watch on border from far-off with accuracy.
When asked about induction of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) the in BSF, Mr Mitra said there was no plan to induct UAV at present but when requirement occurred, they would seek it from Indian Air Force.
With the bumper production of opium in Afghanistan and cross-border smuggling which has considerably increased, he said so far this year, BSF had seized nearly 116 kg of heroin from Punjab border itself.
