Naveen congratulates girl on her courage

Kendrapara, Dec 14 (UNI) A 19-year village girl has got an appreciation letter from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for showing extraordinary courage in nabbing a chain snatcher.

Chitra Rekha Mallick, a Plus three student of Kendrapara Autonomous college and a resident of Shyamsunarpur village on the outskirt of Kendrapara township area, got the letter of appreciation from the Chief Minister yesterday.

According to police, five days back Azad Khan, a resident of Derabish, along with one of his associates came on a bike and tried to snatch a gold chain from Chitra's neck while she was on her way to college along with her friend on a bicycle.

But without getting panicky she managed to catch hold of Azad and shouted for help. Some passers-by came to her rescue and handed over Azad to police.

'' I am excited and my joy knows no bounds when I came to know from a private channel that the Chief Minister has given a letter of recognisation to me for my courageous deed, '' she said.

Kolkata, Dec 14 (UNI) In the absence of the big guns, Karan Rastogi and Rushmi Chakravorthi will be top seeds in this year's National Grass courts Championships with a purse of Rs 4.5 lakhs to be played at the South Club from December 15 to 22. The main draw of the singles will be of 32, while the doubles will be of 16. While there will be 20 direct entries in the singles, there will be four wild cards and eight.....

Gurunanakdev, Osmania Universities advance in league matches

Guntur, Dec 14 (UNI) Gurunanakdev and Osmania Universities advanced in the womens section of league matches in the four-day all India Inter-Zonal Inter-university Netball tournaments here today. Guru Nanakdev university outplayed Pt Ravi Shankar Shukla University 41-36, while Osmania University trounced Bharathidasan University 56-31. In another match, hosts Acharya Nagarjuna University beats Annamalai University 50-17. The match between Kurukshetra University and Punjab University ended on an exciting note as both teams played extremely well to draw it at 38-38. Tournament.....
