Modi claims BJP will emerge victorious

Ahmedabad, Dec 14 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today claimed that the people had decided to give BJP another five-year term for a stable rule in the state and said 'Gujaratis are determined to teach congress a lesson for insulting its pride'', he said.

Addressing eight public rallies in central Gujarat during the day, Mr Modi challenged Sonia Gandhi and Congress-led government at the centre to take action against him.

''They can cut me into four pieces, if they have guts!, he said Exuding confidence on the last day of campaigning, Mr Modi said ''I have seen a BJP wave all over the state. congress will draw a blank in the elections.'' Congress has annoyed Gujaratis by putting up a terrorist's photograph instead of Gandhiji in its electoral advertisement for the last leg of campaigning. What kind of message Congress, which is protecting merchants of death, intends to give to 5.5 crore people of Gujarat?'' he asked.

Mr Modi asked people '' Do you want to install a terrorist as the chief minister? Soniaji calls me ''maut ka saudagar'' but I have not become chief minister because of Soniaji's mercy but because of the blessings of the people of Gujarat'', He said ''on the development issue too congress is trying to mislead people. we have launched many schemes for the overall development of the state''.

'' The Narmada project is lifeline of Gujarat, still congress hobnobbed with anti-dam activists like Medha Patkar to halt the construction to increase the height of the dam, the chief minister alleged.

Ballia bypoll: 4 nominations withdrawn

Ballia, Dec 14 (UNI) Four candidates today withdrew nomination for bypoll to Ballia Lok Sabha constituency on December 29. The seat fell vacant after the death of former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar. Today was the last date to withdraw nominations. Now, 16 candidates, including Chandrashekhar's son Neeraj Shekhar, are in the fray, Assistant Returning Officer Dr S N Singh said. Malaysian PM meets Indian NGOs to discuss current developments

Court awards ten year imprisonment to rapist

Shillong, Dec 14 (UNI) A Fast Track Court in Meghalaya has sentenced a man to ten years rigorous imprisonment for raping a seven-year-old girl last year. Additional District and Sessions Judge B Giri awarded the punishment to Bawanaibor Dkhar alias Mama No yesterday for sexually assaulting a minor girl on May 6 last year at the latter's residence.
