'Marina' to host 'Navy Week fete' on Dec 16

Chennai, Dec 14 (UNI) Marina, the second longest beach in the world, will host the Navy Week fete, that include major demonstrations by warships, submarines, fighter planes and choppers, on December 16.

Vice Admiral Raman Prem Suthan, Flag Officer, Commander-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command told newspersons here today that as part of Navy Week celebration, war ships, submarines and aircraft of the Eastern Naval Command would be putting up a grand display off Marina beach.

''INS Jalashwa'', the latest ship to be inducted into the Navy, would also be visiting the Chennai harbour on the occasion, he said and added that this ship, a troop carrier, was commissioned into the Indian Navy in June this year, Navy Week would be an occasion for the public to understand the might of the Indian Navy and see from close quarters the display of Indian frigates and submarines.

Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala would be the chief guest on the occasion.

As many as eight naval ships, including two guided missile destroyers, five firing units of Khukri Class and an amphibious vessel along with integral helicopters would also be on display.

Three Kiran aircraft, part of the Sagar Pawan Aerobatics Team, would be displayed on the Marina Beach for public view.

'Macros,' the special forces of the Indian Navy, would be demonstrating its skills in blowing up a mock up oil rig, offshore, close to the beach.

The Naval Band, which had given many a performace worldwide, would be participating in beating the retreat.

HC to have second thoughts on Blueline following SC judgement

New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today refused to pass any order regarding the Blueline menace, saying it would proceed further only after going through the Supreme Court's recent judgement concerning judicial overreach. Dumka, Dec 14 (UNI) Demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for tea-tribes of Assam and tribals residing in other parts of the country, the Sanyukta Adivasi Karyasamitee (SAK) would launch an indefinite economic blockade from January 27 next year. Action Committee urges Centre to drop JIPMER Bill

Puducherry, Dec 14 (UNI) The JIPMER Anti-Conversion Action Committee today urged the Centre to drop the 'JIPMER Bill' and asserted that they would oppose if it was brought in again in any form.
