Mahindra-Southern Rly redesign rly station in TN

Chennai, Dec 14 (UNI) Mahindra World City Developers Ltd (MWCDL), the pioneer in Special Economic Zones (SEZ) development in the country, today inaugurated the redesigned station building and passenger amenities at the Paranur railway station, adjoining Mahindra World City near here.

Under a public-private partnership initiative between Mahindra World City and Southern Railways, the Paranur railway station was the ''first'' to be redesigned and maintained by the corporate sector.

With an investment of over Rs 1.5 crore, the new station building had modern passenger amenities, including a spacious ticket counter, waiting room with modern toilets including separate toilets for the handicapped, high-velocity lighting and shuttle services between the station and companies.

Minister of State for Railways R Velu, Tamil Nadu Labour Minister T M Anbarasan among others were present.

Compensation of Rs Five lakh each for bereaved families

Kolkata, Dec 14 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad announced a compensation of Rs five lakh each for the families of those killed in the bus-train accident in Punjab's Moga district today. The Minister, who was here, also announced a compensation of Rs 50,000 each for those critically injured and Rs 15,000 each for the people, who suffered minor injuries. ''The Railway Ministry would also consider offering jobs to one family member of the deceased, who belonged to the poorest.....

No increase in infilteration along Pak border: BSF DG

Jalandhar, Dec 14 (UNI) Disturbances in Pakistan has no impact on Indian border, rather it has become quite after the imposition of emergency there, said Border Security Force Director General A K Mitra here today. Talking to media persons after presiding over the Director General's Quarterly conference here at the BSF's Punjab Frontier Headquarters, Mr Mitra said though when the emergency was declared in Pakistan, there were apprehensions that militants would sneak into the Indian territory and thus the Indian forces.....

UAE may invest in four mega projects in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 14 (UNI) The United Arab Emirates has evinced interest in investing in four mega projects in Kerala and an MoU is likely to be signed in February 2008. Secretary to Ministry of Finance and Industries, the UAE Government, Younis HajiAl Khoori told reporters here that discussions were held regarding a Petro-Chemical and Refinery Complex near Azhikal, a gas or coal-based power project, a financial centre of international standards and development of roads. ''We will look into the possibilities.....
