Local TV channel cancels Modi's interview

Ahmedabad, Dec 14 (UNI) Fearing punitive action for violation of the model code of conduct from the Election Commission, a local TV channel hurriedly cancelled the live interview of Gujarat Chief Minister Narnedra Modi today.

With a view to avoid any legal action, 'The Citi Cable' cancelled its live interview of Mr Modi, that was to be aired at 1930 hours this evening.

Suresh Mehta, former BJP Chief Minister, who recently quit the Party, lodged a complaint with the EC, claiming that the interview was a clear violation of model code of conduct as campaigning ended this evening at 1700 hours.

Mr Mehta, who represents Sardar Patel Utkar Samiti (SPUS), an NGO platform set up by BJP rebels group, had written to the EC that in his interview Mr Modi would definitely talk about issues relating to his Party's campaigning and thus should be considered as a violation of model code of conduct.

Mr Mehta, in his complaint, a copy of which was faxed to the media here this evening, said Mr Modi was going on air after completion of the stipulated campaign time that ends at 1700 hours this evening.

He has also urged the EC to take prompt and appropriate action against Mr Modi and the TV Channel.
