Liquor, tobacco banned in Manipur

Imphal, Dec 14: The people in Manipur have banned consumption of liquor and zarda with a number of anti-drug organisations baring people to not consume such intoxicants. The All Manipur Anti Drug Association had opened several units in different parts of this officially declared dry state in this regard.

The militants had also imposed a ban on such spurios liquors and tobacco. Meanwhile, a public meeting here had resolved to impose ban on the sale and consumption of liquors in the state.

The meeting was jointly organised by social organisations . The Revolutionary People's Party (RPF) imposed ban on betel leaves considering the health hazard.

Aizawl Jan 24: A man hanged himself to death inside the excise lock-up at Lunglei district in southern Mizoram last night.Police said 30-year-old Hrangchhingpuia from Hourang village, was arrested by excise officials on Monday for dealing with country made liquor.''He was arrested with a contingent of local made liquor by excise officials ,'' police said.Police further said though he was soon released he preferred to remain inside the lock-up.We are investigating to ascertain.....

Guj: Rs 1.18 cr worth liquor seized and destroyed

Vadodara, Jul 27: The district authorities destroyed seized liquor worth Rs 1.18 crore. Over 15 brands of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) were bulldozed in an open ground in the Makarpura GIDC estate. The drive began at 1000 hrs, in which IMFL, seized during 1999, 2004/05 and 2006, was destroyed. Those present at the spot included Makarpura PI SP Sagar and his staff, mamlatdar and court officials. NGO stages dharna at film festival office against serving liquor

Panaji, Nov 30: Protesting serving of alcoholic drinks at the venue of the ongoing 38th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), various NGO groups on Thursday staged a demonstration in front of the old GMC building demanding cancellation of licence to the Kingfisher company.
