Lawyers scuffle with police FIR lodged

Kanpur, Dec 14 (UNI) An FIR was today lodged after over six people, including three medipersons, were wounded and several vehicles set afire in a clash between policemen and lawyers here yesterday.

IG S N Singh said the FIR was lodged by people, whose vehicles had been torched during the clash.

The incident had occurred near Chetna crossing, where a police constable's motorcycle rammed into the car of a lawyer, Subhash Tiwari.

The situation snowballed, when some policemen allegedly thrashed the advocate.

Irked over the incident, a large number of lawyers later pelted stones at the SSP office and torched several stationary vehicles.

Three mediapersons were also wounded in the brickbatting and rushed to hospital.

The situation could only be brought under control after police reportedly fired in the air, eyewitnesses said.

Meanwhile, the lawyers have decided to go on a strike till December 18 to protest the 'assualt' on their colleague.

Police in strength had been deployed in the area to prevent fresh violence.

Building collapse will be thoroughly investigated: Phatak

Mumbai, Dec 14 (UNI) Municipal Commissioner Jairaj Phatak today said the guilty behind the building collapse at Shimpoli in Borivali (West) will be punished after thorough investigation into the incident. Sahar residents to protest against proposed evacuation

Mumbai, Dec 14 (UNI) Facing threat of evacuation in view of the proposed Mumbai Airport expansion plan, some 25,000 residents plan to hold a rally to oppose the move at Sahar Village here tomorrow, Sahar Citizens Forum said today.
