IEG to begin golden jubliee celebrations with release of book by PM

New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) Country's leading research organisation the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG) will kick-start its golden jubliee celebrations with the release of two volumes of the book, 'Growth, Equity, Environment and Population: Economic and Sociological Perspectives', by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Both the series have been edited by IEG Director Kanchan Chopra and IEG Chairman (Board of Governors) C H Hanumantha Rao.

The institute, with its mandate of 'in- depth research for informed policy making', is one of the leading research institutions in the field of economic and social development. Founded in 1958 by late professor V K R V Rao, the institute focusses on economics, demography and sociology with its researchers' focus on areas of emerging societal concern and interest.

The IEG has also held training programmes for Indian Statistical Services, NABARD officers, researchers and teachers from Indian universities as well as other Asian countries from time to time.

Govt to conserve 10,000 MW electricity in 11th Plan

New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) With the use of energy efficient technology, the government today said it aims to conserve about 10,000 MW of power in the 11th Five Year Plan, helping the exchequer save Rs 50,000 crore. ''We have targeted saving 10,000 MW through energy conservation in the five-year plan,'' Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said while addressing a National Energy Conservation Day function here. Chopra Committee to submit report tomorrow
