Hurriyat rejects NC's suggestion to contest polls in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 14 (UNI) Rejecting the suggestion of National Conference (NC) to contest assembly elections next year, the Hurriyat Conference (HC) (Mirwaiz) said poll process will not help to reach anywhere.

NC president Omar Abdullah had yesterday urged Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq, chairman of the HC to contest assembly election.

A spokesman of the HC, reacting to Mr Abdullah's suggestion, said the amalgam would not take part in any election or selection till the Kashmir issue is resolved as per the wishes of the people of the state.

''The election process was futile exercise till the basic issue is addressed,'' he said, adding that the HC cannot ignore the sacrifices made by the people since 1947.

Both the factions of the HC and other separatists and militant organisations had already announced poll boycott and appealed to people not to be part of the process.

The Hurriyat spokesman said a dialogue process on Kashmir had already started. However, he said, all the parties to the dispute had to show some flexibility in their known stands so that a lasting and durable solution could be possible.

He said the four-point formula, presented by Pakistan President Parvez Musharraf, was most important to resolve the vexed issue peacefully.

''Until we act on these four points, we cannot move ahead on Kashmir,'' he said.
