Hooda criticises opposition on BPL issue

Chandigarh, Dec 14 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today urged the people of the state not to be misled by the ''false propaganda of the power hungry politicians'' with regard to the below poverty line (BPL) draft list.

Mr Hooda's statement comes in the wake of opposition allegations that several deserving candidates were left out and names of undeserving candidates were included in the lists.

Mr Hooda said that draft lists of Below Poverty Line (BPL) had been prepared just to bring transparency. ''These are not the final lists.'' He said the aim of preparing these Draft Lists was to identify the deserving and undeserving persons. The Draft Lists were being put up for the review of the general public in the specially convened meetings of Gram Sabhas from December 7 to 19.

These meetings would ensure that the deserving candidates were not left out and names of undeserving candidates were not added in the lists.

The same had also been uploaded on the website of Rural Development Department which could be visited on the address at www.haryanarural.gov.in.

The Chief Minister said that the state government was open to all kinds of suggestions in case anyone felt that the name of a deserving candidate was not included in the list or an undeserving person had found place in the list.

Appeals and objections could be registered with the SDM or Tehsildar of concerned area within 30 days. The SDM or the Tehsildar were bound to give their decisions within ten days on these objections.

''In case anyone does not feel satisfied with the decision of SDM and Tehsildar, he can approach the Deputy Commissioner of his respective area and register the objection within 30 days,'' he said.

The final BPL lists would only be issued after the completion of all these formalities.

Mr Hooda said that instructions had been issued to the officers to ensure inclusion of only the deserving candidates in the BPL lists.

Negligence on the part of any officer in this regard would be dealt with sternly and people should be rest assured that only final transparent lists would be released, he added.
