Hemant Shirodkar bags two prizes in photo contest in Mumbai

Mumbai, Dec 14 (UNI) Press photographer Hemant Shirodkar of Times of India has bagged two prizes for his entries in a contest organised by the Mumbai Press Club.

A total of 35 news photographers, who are members of the Club, participated in the contest this year, sending in over 450 images. Out of these 12 images were adjudged as winners by the thee-member jury of Santosh Verma, Israr Qureshi and Nrupen Madhvani here last evening.

The photojournalist who have clicked these 12 images are A.

Srinivas (The Indian Express), Ashish Rane (Mid-Day), Deepak Salvi (Mumbai Mirror), Dilip Kagda (The Indian Express), Fawzan Husain (Freelancer), Ganesh Shirsekar (The Indian Express), Goutam Sen (Sahara), Hemant Shirodkar (Times of India,2 images), Sachin Haralkar (Mumbai Mirror), Vijayanand Gupta and Vikas Khot (Hindustan Times).

They will take home a cash prize when desktop photo-calendar christened ''Mumbai Moments 2008'', comprising all these 12 images, is formally released by the club early next year.

The contest, organised 5th year in a row, aims to promote the memorable moments of Mumbai captured by the news photographers in a current year.

Four-day winter session begins in J'khand

Ranchi, Dec 14 (UNI) The four-day winter session of the Jharkhand Assembly began here today with the introduction of the second supplementary budget for the current fiscal. The budget standing at about Rs 1473 crore was placed by Finance Minister Stephen Marandi. It would be passed tomorrow after a debate. Pathankot turns out as coldest place in Punjab

Jalandhar, Dec 14 (UNI) The border town of Pathankot turned out to be the coldest place in Punjab, as people reeled under cold weather conditions following an overcast sky and rain at some places in the state. The minimum temperture in Pathankot was recorded at 5 degrees Celsius, 0.9 degree below normal. According to Defence Spokesman, the minimum temperature at Adampur airbase near Jalandhar fell to 6.4 degrees, 2.6 degrees above normal. Amritsar recorded the minimum temperature at 6.4 degrees,.....

Bad weather holds up flights, passengers face hardship

Bangalore, Dec 14 (UNI) Passengers were stranded in the airport here due to delay in take off of scheduled flights due to bad weather. According to official sources, the passengers faced hardship due to delay in arrival of connecting flights from Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai due to poor visibility. However, airport authorities declined to give details of the flights delayed. Passengers of flights were asked to disembark twice as take off was not possible due to bad weather. The weather.....
