HC stays construction at Metro City

Lucknow, Dec 14 (UNI) Hearing a petition challenging the sealing of Metro City at Paper Mill in the Uttar Pradesh capital, the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court today directed that no construction in the area should be undertaken by the allotees.

Besides staying the construction, a bench comprising Justices A N Verma and S N Shukla directed the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) not to seal the main gate of the Metro City.

The orders were passed on a PIL filed by Upper India Kapoor Paper Mill Ltd Managing Director M Parekh.

The government and LDA counsel told the Court that notwithstanding court directions, the allotees were continuing the construction at the Metro City.

On December 7, the LDA had rejected the approved map of Metro City and sealed it.

Building collapse will be thoroughly investigated: Phatak

Mumbai, Dec 14 (UNI) Municipal Commissioner Jairaj Phatak today said the guilty behind the building collapse at Shimpoli in Borivali (West) will be punished after thorough investigation into the incident. Speaking to reporters, Mr Phatak said the guilty will not be spared as people were living on the ground floor of the building in spite of it being under construction. Sahar residents to protest against proposed evacuation

Mumbai, Dec 14 (UNI) Facing threat of evacuation in view of the proposed Mumbai Airport expansion plan, some 25,000 residents plan to hold a rally to oppose the move at Sahar Village here tomorrow, Sahar Citizens Forum said today. Alleging that the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) was trying to acquire 436 plots in Sahar Village, which includes a 409-year-old Church and a graveyard, Forum Chairman Godfrey W Pimenta said that the residents also plans to take out a candle-lit.....

Govt to conserve 10,000 MW electricity in 11th Plan

New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) With the use of energy efficient technology, the government today said it aims to conserve about 10,000 MW of power in the 11th Five Year Plan, helping the exchequer save Rs 50,000 crore. ''We have targeted saving 10,000 MW through energy conservation in the five-year plan,'' Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said while addressing a National Energy Conservation Day function here. This conservation will result in avoiding investment of Rs 50,000 crore in electricity generation, he added......
