Haryana promotes contract farming

Chandigarh, Dec 14 (UNI) The 'Contract Farming Scheme' in Haryana would go a long way in benefitting the farming community by ensuring the farmers pre-assured price of their agricultural produce.

This was stated by Haryana State Agriculture Marketing Board (HSAMB) Chairman Shadi Lal Batra after inaugurating a meet on 'Contract Farming' between the sponsor firms and farmers of the state held at Panchkula.

He said the sponsoring firms would provide the farmers the techniques and inputs for better farming and resultantly better value of their produce.

The Chairman said the food processing industries in turn would assure supply of quality raw material to encourage the farmers for producing quality agriculture produce.

He said the rights of the farmers had been protected well and a grievance redressal forum had been provided in the rules.

He said adoption of 'Contract Farming' would fetch more value to the farmers and would enhance the income of the farmers at large.

Under this scheme, the intending firms woul get itself registered with HSAMB with a registration fee of Rs 5000 which would be valid for three years. Thereafter, it would be renewed from time to time, he added.

HSAMB Chief Administrator Ram Niwas said a few companies had already been registered with the Board and some more were in line.

The Sponsoring Firms would get benefit by supply of bulk quantity of the produce and of good quality. This would enable them to prepare good quality food and in fetching attractve rates in the market.
