Four-day winter session of J'khand Assembly begins

Ranchi, Dec 14 (UNI) The four-day winter session of the Jharkhand Assembly began here today with introduction of the second supplementary budget for the current fiscal.

The budget standing at about Rs 1473 crore was placed by state Finance Minister Stephen Marandi. It would be passed tomorrow after a debate.

Mr Marandi, also the parliamentary affairs minister, tabled the Jharkhand State Highways Authority (ordinance), 2007 bill.

Speaker Alamgir Alam, in his inaugural address, urged the legislators to make the most of the small session and hoped that the members would extend cooperation in running it smoothly.

The Speaker condoled the death of former Karnataka Chief Minister S R Bommai, Rajya Sabha member J P Mathur, law expert Laxmimal Singhvi, former union minister J Krishnamurthy, former minister of united Bihar Kailashpati Singh, former MLAs/MLCs Maniram Singh, Lambodar Pathak and Ram Vilas Jha and noted Hindi poet Trilochan Sashtri.

Others who expressed condolence were Chief Minister Madhu Kora, Leader of Opposition Arjun Munda, Deputy Chief Minister Sudhir Mahto and leaders of respective parties' legislature wings.

The House also condoled the death of victims in Chilkhari massacre by CPI(Maoist) which took away lives of 19 people and recent death of an adivasi, residing in Assam, while he , along with others, was holding demonstration in support of his demand.

Diesel cars are playing havoc with the air of the capital

New Delhi, Dec 14: The increasing number of diesel cars are playing havoc with the air of the capital and other major cities, as even Euro III diesel vehicles emit 7.5 times more toxic particulate matter (PM) than petrol cars. The enormous difference in the actual emission levels of Euro III (Bharat Stage III) diesel and petrol cars has been highlighted in an analysis carried out by Delhi-based Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) on the data released by the Pune-based Automotive.....

Srinagar, Dec 14 (UNI) Demanding revival of traditional trade routes going through Pakistan to Afghanistan, Iran and Central Asia, Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Finance Tariq Hameed Karra said no state or country in today's world could progress in insulation. Lucknow, Dec 14 (UNI) Union Tourism and Culture minister Ambika Soni has stressed the need to sensitise people about preservation and conservation of monuments.
