Former High Commissioner passes away

Chandigarh, Dec 14 (UNI) Former High Commissioner to Ghana, Dr Daljit Singh Pannu passed away at Fortis hospital in Mohali yesterday evening after a prolonged illness.

Surived by his wife and two sons, the mortal remains of Dr Pannu were consigned to the flames here this afternoon.

Dr Pannu, who belonged to Amritsar also distingished himself in the field of journalism. He worked for United News of India (UNI) and All India Radio (AIR) in the 1960's at Amritsar.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal expressed profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Dr Pannu.

In a condolence message the Chief Minister described Dr Pannu as a multi-faceted personality with the qualities of head and heart. His contribution towards the uplift of the weaker sections of the society would be ever remembered by one and all. In his death the nation has lost an able administrator and void has been created which was difficult to be filled.

Mr Badal also expressed his heart felt sympathies with the members of the bereaved family and prayed to the Almighty to give strength to bear this irreparable lose and grant peace to the departed soul.

Chief Secretary R I Singh also mourned the death of Dr Pannu and termed it as a personal loss as he had a long association with him.

Media Advisor to Chief Minister, Mr Harcharn Bains also mourned the death of Dr Pannu.

Former State Women Commission Chairman demands CBI inquiry

Consumer Forum asks insurance company to pay Rs one lakh

Fatehabad, Dec 14 (UNI) The District Consumer Forum today directed an insurance company to pay Rs one lakh to sons of an accident victim, in settlement of their insurance claim. Karan Singh and Rajbir Singh, two brothers of village Bhodia Khera in this district had filed a complaint in the forum that their father Ram Kishan had died after being injured in a road accident here in August, 2005. Former SHO sent to CBI custody till December 22

Patiala, Dec 14 (UNI) A local court today sent former Station House Officer (SHO) Raman Kumar, allegedly involved in the Moga sex scandal, into CBI custody till December 22. Raman Kumar had surrendered before Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), at Chandigarh, yesterday.
