Ex-minister Ramachandran Nair is dead

Kochi, Dec 14 (UNI) Former Kerala Minister R Ramachandran Nair died after a prolonged illness at a private hospital here today.

He was 76 and is survived by wife and son.

Ramachandran Nair, admitted to the hospital on December nine, suffered a stroke in the morning and the end came at 1430 hrs, family sources said.

He was the Health and Devaswom Minister in the Karunakaran Ministry in 1991-94.

Hailing from Parumala in Pathanamthitta district, Mr Ramachandran had represented the Aranmula constituency in the Assembly.

Ramachandran Nair, a prominent leader of the Nair Service Society (NSS), had left active politics in 1995 due to health reasons.

The last rites would be held at his home town tomorrow.

Washington, Dec 14: Special representative of UN Human Rights, Hina Jilani, has urged the US not to allow its observers to monitor the January 8 elections in Pakistan since the polls have already been rigged there. Five killed in Mumbai building collapse

Mumbai, Dec 14: At least five people were killed and 15 others injured after a two-storey building collapsed in Shimpoli area of Borivli on Friday. Many people are feared trapped under the debris. Sehore, MP, Dec 14 (UNI) More than 20 students of the Rafi Ahmed Agricultural College here have complained about being ragged by their seniors.
